Nihonga is a style of Japanese painting. Pigments are mixed with glue with your finger by making a circular movement on a plate until pigments particles are completely bound with the glue. The glue used for this technique is nikawa glue. The colours can be a little diluted with water. They are applied with a brush on a washi paper that is mounted on a woo
den board with starch glue. The underdrawing is made with black ink which is afterwards covered with a coloured layer. It is to give an indication of the design.
